Successful launch of the Communal Digitization Index (CDI)
On October 9, the Millennium Nucleus on Digital Inequalities and Opportunities (NUDOS) successfully launched the Communal Digitalization Index (IDC), an innovative study that measures the level of digitalization of 301 communes throughout Chile. The activity, which took place at the Museum of Visual Arts (MAVI) in Santiago, was attended by around 70 participants, including local authorities, technology experts, academics and members of civil society.
The event was inaugurated by the five principal investigators of NUDOS, who presented the key results of the IDC and the implications of the study for the country’s municipalities. Ingrid Bachmann, Sergio Toro, Teresa Correa, Juan Carlos Castillo, and Sebastián Valenzuela, delved into the three dimensions evaluated: connectivity, municipal digital procedures, and school digitalization.
In addition to the presentations, the event was attended by prominent authorities, who emphasized the importance of the CDI for the formulation of public policies that promote inclusive and equitable digitization.
The Communal Digitalization Index has been received with great interest, and it is expected that its results will contribute to improve digitalization strategies in different regions of the country, especially in those communes that have greater gaps in access to technology and digital infrastructure.
